The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) is committed to global leadership to advance best practice in all forms of impact assessment via our network of members and practitioners.  We deeply value equitable and sustainable development and the right of citizens to have a voice in the decisions that affect them.  For those reasons, IAIA has created, and is accepting applications for, the IAIA19 Conference Inclusiveness Bursary.  Up to 15 bursaries may be given to representatives of Indigenous Peoples, affected communities, and under-represented populations in the form of a reduced registration fee of US$295, rather than the full US$990.  The recipients are expected to cover all other costs associated with attending the conference.  It is IAIA’s hope that these bursaries will assist those individuals and groups who may be marginalized, vulnerable, or disadvantaged to be able build their knowledge and capacity to lead or participate in impact assessments through participation in our premier annual event.

A successful applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a member of Indigenous Peoples, affected communities, and/or under-represented populations.
  • Have a compelling case for how attendance at an IAIA conference would assist his/her community.
  • Have contributed to his/her community in the past.
  • Have a strong economic need for the bursary.
  • Have never attended an IAIA annual conference before.
  • Be fluent in English.

Selection will consider compliance to all above mentioned criteria, as well as the additional requirements listed here.

  • Applicants must meet all of the above-listed qualifications.
  • Applicants must complete and submit an application by 20 March 2019. However, since applications will be evaluation on a rolling basis, and awarded on a first come, first-served basis, the application process may be closed sooner if all 15 bursaries are awarded.
  • The recipients must have valid passports and must obtain and pay for all necessary visas in a timely manner (if necessary).
  • Each bursary includes one reduced conference registration fee in which the bursary recipient will only pay US$295 to attend not the full fee of US$990. The recipients are expected to pay all other costs associated with attending the conference.
  • The recipients are expected to attend IAIA19 in its entirety, remaining in Brisbane, Australia, from 29 April through 2 May 2019.
  • The recipients shall submit comments and evaluations of the value of his/her conference participation to IAIA, as requested.
