IAIA VIRTUAL SYMPOSIUM CAPACITY BUILDING STIPEND

Financial support for African impact assessment professionals that wish to participate in the upcoming IAIA virtual symposium from 5-8 October 2020.

Application Deadline:   28 September 2020
To apply: Complete the application form at the bottom of this page.

The International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) is pleased to offer this capacity building initiative with the help of donations from our generous members and matching funds from Global Giving, a crowd funding site that has close relationships with many major corporations. Please note that the funding for these stipends is contingent on the success of this Global Giving crowd funding campaign.

COVID-19 has had devastating effects in Africa, and the best short-term response is to provide health care and food aid. This is not the time to move forward with potentially unwise and unsustainable infrastructure projects, which will burden the continent’s citizenry for generations. Rather than traditional energy generation, pipelines and mines, African decision makers must be given the tools to support economic stimulus efforts, which prioritize sustainable and socially equitable development.

This stipend will provide five African Leaders the opportunity to build their sustainability skills by funding their participation in the IAIA virtual symposium “Our Interconnected World: Impact Assessment, Health, and the Environment.”

These same five individuals will also receive a complimentary one-year IAIA membership, with electronic access to the Impact Assessment and Project Appraisal journal and ongoing networking opportunities with other impact assessment professionals worldwide.

Who would qualify for the funding?

A successful applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Must reside in a country in Africa.
  • Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2-12 years professional experience in an impact assessment-related field.
  • Currently working in an impact assessment related profession.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must meet all the above-listed qualifications.
  • Applicants must submit a complete application form by 28 September 2020.
  • Recipients will be expected to participate fully in the virtual symposium.

Each stipend includes:

  • Registration fee for “Our Interconnected World” Virtual Symposium
  • One year IAIA membership with electronic access to the IAPA journal and related networking opportunities
